Freedom 4/24’s Human Trafficking Prevention Curriculum for Grades 5-12


Curriculum Overview and Module Descriptions

The Human Trafficking Prevention Curriculum is a comprehensive package of educational materials developed for teaching 5th through 12th grade students lessons based on the Family Life and Health Standards of Learning in Virginia. The curriculum includes four modules with materials for classroom facilitation with scripted lessons, videos, and student activities including role plays and scenarios. Students will learn about boundaries and consent in healthy relationships, online safety, sextortion, as well as a comprehensive understanding of exploitation and human trafficking in the world today and how to respond.

This curriculum is completely FREE for schools. We do not want any barriers to life-saving education.

Lesson 1: Healthy Relationships & Exploitation

Designed for students as young as 5th grade, this lesson lays a foundation for understanding healthy relationships and friendships, and introduces the concepts of boundaries, consent, exploitation, abuse, and turning to a trusted adult.

Lesson 2: Human Trafficking

The sixth grade standard is used for this introductory lesson on exploitation and human trafficking.

Lesson 3 : Human Trafficking, Grooming, and Sextortion

This lesson is recommended for 7th grade and above as it delves deeper into the grooming strategies of the traffickers. Online safety is a larger component of this lesson.

Lesson 4: Human Trafficking Vulnerabilities and Vignettes

This lesson has a shorter section of direct instruction at the beginning, and it is expected to span over two class periods involving significant independent student study of survivor vignettes. Students review risk factors and tactics of control used by traffickers.
